My Story
The journey to becoming a Mandarin tutor
I grew up in a traditional Taiwanese family where life had a clear checklist:Study hard, get into a good school, forget about passion, get a government job if you’re lucky, get married, buy a house, have kids. You know, the classic.
So I did what I was told.
I finished university, worked at a bank, then a big corporate job. I checked all the boxes…
and felt completely boxed in.
In my culture, obedience was the gold standard, and I was great at it. But I was losing my voice.
So I made a deal with my parents (kinda):
“Let me walk your road first. Then I’ll choose mine.”
And I did.
I packed my bags and spent years traveling across the U.S., Australia, Europe, and Southeast Asia. I lived in a car, crashed in hostels, met people from every corner of the world. Somewhere along the way, I stumbled into Mandarin teaching.
I’ve always loved languages, and being able to speak English opened doors I didn’t even know existed. It gave me freedom. Options. A new identity.
Teaching Mandarin started as an experiment, but quickly became the most meaningful work I’ve ever done.
It let me reconnect with my own culture in ways I never expected, especially when I met people who had no idea what Taiwan was really like.
And I realized: I don’t just want to teach Mandarin. I want to share Taiwan.
One day, my American roommate (who was learning Mandarin at the time) said:
“Why don’t you just start teaching Mandarin seriously?”
And I thought, “Yeah… why not?”
So here I am.
I never dreamed of becoming a teacher. But now I feel like I’ve found my thing.
Through Jane’s Mandarin, I get to meet people like you - from all over the world, and share not just a language, but a way of seeing the world.
Let’s build your Mandarin key together, a key to deeper friendships, family roots, or just being more you in another language.

My Teaching Philosophy
Comprehensible First
I focus on input that you can understand. When you hear enough real, meaningful Mandarin, speaking starts to come naturally — no forced memorization, just real language that sticks
Real Tasks, Real Language
We learn by doing. My lessons are built around real-world tasks — like ordering food, asking directions, or joining a conversation. The language you learn comes from situations you might actually be in.
You-Based Content
We learn words that connect to your life — your routines, your travels, your personality. That’s what makes learning fun, personal, and unforgettable. The goal isn’t to cover every word — just the ones that you’ll actually use.
